Este paraje corresponde a un tramo del cauce del arroyo de Garganta de los Infiernos, dentro del espacio natural protegido del mismo nombre, en el que el río ha labrado vistosos pilancones o marmitas de gigante, los llamados "pilones", sobre el lecho granítico. Se accede al paraje desde la carretera N-110 cerca de la localidad de Jerte (Cáceres). Es un lugar con gran afluencia de visitantes por lo que puede haber dificultades para aparcar. En el mismo desvío (coordenadas indicadas más abajo como aparcamiento) hay lugar de sobra para ello. Si no hay muchos coches, es posible acercarse hasta las inmediaciones de N 40º 12.361' W 5º 46.360', donde también se puede dejar el vehículo. Desde cualquiera de estos lugares se tomará un sendero balizado que nos acercará en algo menos de 3 km hasta el paraje de Los Pilones.
En el citado sector del río, éste ha excavado ocho grandes "pilones" de entre 10 y 15 metros de diámetro, separados por pequeños saltos de agua. El desarrollo de estas formas se inicia por el efecto de desgaste provocado por los cantos movidos por remolinos o turbulencias. Una vez iniciado el desarrollo de una forma incipiente, ésta se va agrandando y profundizando por la acción del mismo proceso: el flujo de agua que entra en la cavidad emplea los clastos atrapados en la corriente a modo de mecanismo de perforación (véase esquema en este enlace).

This site is a stretch of the stream bed of Garganta de los Infiernos, within the protected natural area of the same name, where the river has carved colorful potholes or "giants cauldrons", called "Los Pilones" on the granite bed. Access to the site from the road N-110 near the town of Jerte (Caceres). It is a place with great influx of visitors so there may be difficulties in parking. In the same deflection (coordinates listed below as parking) there is room to spare for this. If there are not many cars, it is possible to visit the vicinity of N 40 º 12.361' W 5º 46.360', where you can also park the car. From any of these places will take a marked path that will bring us into something less than 3 km to the site of Los Pilones.
The river has excavated eight potholes of between 10 and 15 meters in diameter, separated by small waterfalls. The development of these forms is initiated by the effect of wear caused by the song moved by eddies or turbulence. Once the development of a nascent form, it is enlarged and deepened by the action of the same process: the flow of water entering the cavity using the clasts trapped in the flow as a mechanism of perforation (see diagram here).
