Johnny Kaw is a fictitious character. The waymark is a statue of him holding a scythe to harvest wheat. It stands approximately 30 feet tall. The statue is constructed of concrete over a steel beam framework. The statue was completed and dedicated in May 1966 at a cost of approximately $7,000 according to Ravenstone Press's website at (

He is well maintained as you can see from the photo.
For years I thought this was a bad statue of Paul Bunyan. I could not find any plaque that tells what the statue is.
He is located in City Park. There is no sidewalk that allows you to get to the front of the statue but he is also visible from N 11th Street which is about 60 feet from Johnny Kaw on the east side of the park.
