Even though it resulted in a Union defeat, the Battle of the Monocacy stalled Confederate Gen. Jubal Early's advancement toward Washington by a day, allowing the Union time to shore up the city's defenses.
A new Visitor Center and more properties open to the public allow the visitor the opportunity to better learn more about this battle. The hiking trails offer scenic views and a glimpse of history.
