Oakey hill trig point 684m
Oakey Hill Trig point is the highest point of the Oakey Hill Nature Reserve, part of the Canberra Nature parks. It is located between the Canberra town centres of Woden and Western Creek.
Great views of the city and the surrounding country side can be had from this trig point.
The Oakey Hill Nature reserve is bordered by The Illoura horse Paddocks to the north, the suburb of Lyons to the East. To the west is the Tuggeranong Parkway and the suburb of Weston and to the south is Hindmarsh Drive and the suburbs of Chifley and Warramanga.
Easy access to the trig can be gained from Heysen Street just near where it crosses under the Tuggeranong parkway. A sealed service road goes to within 10 meters of the trig point. Unfortunately there is a locked gate at the start of the access road. So car access is not possible.
A water reservoir and a rather top heavy mobile phone tower are located near the trig point.
During my childhood I lived at the base of this hill in Lyons, the family still resides there. I spent many hours exploring, playing and just hanging out on this hill. I hope you enjoy it as I did and still do.
