The Normans built a church on this site. It is believed that the church was originally built as a chantry chapel. The tower of the church is all that remains from this period and dates from the 13th century. By the mid nineteenth century the church had become very dilapidated and the church wardens decided to rebuild it in 1847. This event is recorded on a plaque sited above the door into the south porch. Parts of the old church were removed during the re-building in 1847 and taken to Nanpean, in the parish of St. Stephen's in Brannell. The material was incorporated in a new church being built at that place
The tower contains a peel of three bells. In the churchyard, near the south porch, is an ancient cross of great antiquity.
