The William Holmes house was constructed in 1847 and was on a once 640 acre farm settled by pioneers William and Louisa Holmes. The Holmes family migrated to what was to become Oregon in 1843. The home was the scene of many early early government meetings and many social events and is the oldest American home in Oregon City. It was from the balcony of this home the first territorial governor, Joseph Lane, gave his 1849 inaugural address. The farm received the name Rose Farm because of the many rose bushes Louisa had planted The house is open for tours Saturdays during the summer, Noon - 4:00 pm.
