The De Soto Oak stands opposite the E. entrance of the Plant Museum--what used to be the Tampa Bay Hotel. Under this tree legend says De Soto parleyed with the Indians. There is a tablet under the tree, placed in 1929, commemorating the event placed by the De Soto chapter DAR.
