Sign text: "In a log cabin which stood here, Frances Eliza Hodgson, newly from England with her family, spent the winter of 1865. She helped support her family with music lessons, also opened a "Select Seminary for Young People." Here she met Dr. Swan Burnett, whom she married in 1873, also started the writing which later made her famous

There is another historical marker on Highway 11E for her most famous book. She also authored The Secret Garden (1911), which is the children's novel that she is probably best known today.

Per Touring the East Tennesse Backroads By Carolyn Sakowski, the log cabin is now weatherboarded as part of the house at the marker site.
