The courthouse has marble relief panels on the street-side walls over the doors. Outside and on the inner walls of the courtyard are carved heads which demonstrate ethnic types prevalent in California history, from the native Americans through the Spanish padres and soldiers, to farmers and modern businessmen. The artwork was created by Jo Mora in 1937.
In addition, a reflecting pool and the large freestanding sculpture in the courtyard was part of Mora's design.
