it became a nationally recognized trail in 1974. restrooms can be found at parks every two or three miles! It is often called the American River Parkway and bike trail. One can ride from Sacramento to Folsom Lake and there are additional trails that intersect. No overnight camping or motorized vehicles are allowed. There is a Park ranger patrol. Pedestrians walk at their own risk on weekends. These bikes go fast and in clusters! Training ground for marathons and triathalons all of which happen here. Eppies Great Race (www. )
Dogs on - leash are permitted. Head phones are a no- no! Fees only apply if you do not ride your bike into the park. Vehicles that park or bring trailers must pay fees $5. An annual pass is available www.sacparks.net . There are call boxes along the route. Horse use a separate unpaved trail. Speed limit on the trail is supposed to be 15 MPH. Bicycles are prohibited on any unpaved trail!! No skateboards!! East of the hatchery at Hazel is within the Folsom State Park area.
