Fulton's new eastside water tower was completed in 2007 to replace the original water tower that was made of concrete and had been in use since 1913. In 2006, the original tower was struck by lightning, causing large chunks of the towers exterior surface, some being almost a foot thick, to break away. The original tower stands 110 feet tall and held one million gallons of water. The new elevated tower stands 120 feet tall and is a domed steel tank on a concrete pedestal. As of March 2008, the city is accepting bids for the demolition of the old tower, with an estimated cost being as much as $100,000. Note the dark area about 1/2 way down the old tower, this is one of the large sections that broke away in 2006.
