From the press release: "In early 2004, Knoll undertook a project to earn LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for Commercial Interiors for its San Francisco showroom and sales office.
In December, 2004, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)—the nation's foremost coalition of building industry leaders working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, healthy places to live and work—granted Silver certification to Knoll San Francisco for the renovation of the 8,500-square-foot space.
The project incorporated: salvaged materials to construct a raised sales floor at the street level; an energy-saving wireless network; Eco-Spec paint, low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), permitting associates to continue working on-site; Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood to construct a central ramp; only transparent partitions parallel with the window to provide every workstation with natural light; and other recycled and sustainable materials, including FSC-certified wood cores on workstations, 100% recycled content textiles, carpet tiles with recycled-content backing and lighting fixtures with energy-efficient bulbs."
