This is the site of a small spillway on the Guadalupe River, normally a small stream during most of the year. An interesting web site describes the flooding possibility of this urban stream. In 1995, San Jose experienced it's greatest flood in history as the Guadalupe river overflowed, covering freeways into the downtown. Interestingly, the gauges are graduated in feet, and with major divisions in tenths of a foot (instead of inches), with further subdivisions of .02 of a foot.
