Home of Gabriel de la Torre,
public official of the Mexican and
American period. Believed to be
the first Federal Court in Monterey"


The building has a plaque which states that it was the 1st Federal Court, 1836. That would have been under Mexican Federal jurisdiction, with California becoming a state of the United States in 1850.
