This hotel was built in the Winter of 1906-07, to take care of the increased number of visitors due to the coming of the railroad, J.W. Lair built this elegant two-story, brick, hotel on the corner where his residence had formerly stood. In January 1908, George W. Stone took charge of the hotel, moving the furniture and equipment from the Hotel Animas into the beautiful new building, and John Lair and family moved into their frame cottage next door. In August 1911, Joseph F. Ray of Salt Lake City bought the hotel and he and his family operated it until 1942 when it was sold to Maude Keys. It now operates as Miss Gail's Inn Bed & Breakfast. There are many old buildings on Main Street with shops in them.
