METRO DJ-4R, VA, is a survey disk mounted in surface of the sidewalk on the north side of Eisenhower Avenue near a stairway leading to the Van Dorn METRO station in Fairfax County, VA. The disk is mounted flush with the surface of the sidewalk, about 65 feet southwest of and 35 feet higher than the entrance to the station, about 61 feet northwest and across Eisenhower Avenue from a fire hydrant, about 57 feet west-southwest of a gray, concrete light pole number F74 C081 UF, about 51 feet east-northeast of a gray, concrete light pole number F52, about 14 feet east-northeast of a round, 18-inch sewer access cover in the sidewalk, 9.75 feet south-southwest of the east end of a concrete wall on the south side of the stairway, 9.5 feet north-northwest of the northwest curb of Eisenhower Avenue, 5.75 feet north of a round, 8-inch water system access cover in the sidewalk, and 5.25 feet northeast of a round, 8-inch water system access cover in the sidewalk. The disk was probably set by the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the agency responsible for DC's METRO (subway) and bus systems. It is stamped METRO DJ-4R. To reach from Interstate Highway 95 south of Washington, DC, take Exit173 to South Van Dorn Street northbound. Go north on South Van Dorn Street for about 0.43 miles to the METRO exit lane to Metro Road on the right. Take the METRO lane to Metro Road, and go east and south for about 0.15 miles to the entrance to the “Kiss and Ride” (coin-meter) lot on the left. Park in the “Kiss and Ride” lot and walk southeast to the entrance to the METRO station. At the entrance (but before entering), turn right and take the stairway west and east and uphill to Eisenhower Avenue. At the top of the stairway, turn right and walk southwest for about nine feet to the disk in the sidewalk. Recovery of this disk was first logged at the Geocaching datasheet for survey disk GPS 48 1990, PID = HV9314.
