Congregation Sinai was established in 1954 and by 1956 had completed a building on the current site. In 1961 and 1968, two adjacent properties were acquired for expansion. In 1991-93, upgrades and renovations were made to the buildings. In 1994 Sinai broadened its scope, as services for the Traditional and Egalitariam minyanim traded use of the main sanctuary and social hall. These changes have made Congregation Sinai unique in the Bay Area.
Several new synagogues have spawned from Congregation Sinai, one of which nearby Am Echad.
