This poineer settler from Pennsylvania, a minister of the Church of the Brethren, built a two-story log house in 1793, which stands .2 miles northwest on the Old Stage Road. While not actually a inn, the house was often a stopping place for travelers along the stage road. Hammer is buried on the hill above the house.
