Dry Canyon is an open space recreation area that runs for nearly 4 miles through town. The canyon is an old channel of the Deschutes River. About 78,000 years ago massive lava flow to the south forced the Deschutes River into a new channel. Then a few thousand years later another large lava flow entered the abandoned channel and partially filled it, leaving a wide flat floor canyon.
Bridge is best viewed from the trail along floor of Dry Canyon. Closest trail access point is from West Canyon Rim Park (N 44° 17.159’ W 121° 10.973’) about a half mile walk to bridge.
