Paso Robles is one of the cities on the old route of El Camino Real. Along this stretch, the new freeway is a few feet east of the old route, while the original highway remains as the frontage road.
This bell could be an easy location to stop safely off the freeway at one of the nearby businesses. Just south of this bell is the River Lodge Motel, which opened in 1947 as the Suburban Lodge.
