Because there is only one usable pass through the mountains between Gaviota and Buellton, this modern freeway follows the same route as the old highway, which is also very likely the route of the padres.
This bell would be a good one to stop off the freeway for a safe photograph, since it is near the entrance to a blueberry farm.
