Born here on the second of May 1859.
Novelist, essayist, humorist and playwright, best known now for his novel "Three Men in a Boat."
On 17 February 1927 Jerome returned to the town of his birth to receive the freedom of the borough of Walsall.
"This freedom of the borough, it is the people's knighthood. I take it you have conferred upon me the knighthood of Walsall, and I shall always be proud of my spurs."
