Adjacent to Interstate 64, a memorial was established in 2004 that honors Virginia state highway workers who lost their lives while serving the travelers of the Commonwealth.

The monument honors those state highway workers who lost their lives while working on the state's various highways.
Using no public funds to build the memorial, it was constructed using donations gathered from "Virginia Department of Transportation employees and retirees, family members, businesses and organizations throughout the state.
The monument utilizes profiles of workers to reflect the diverse workforce as well as the outline of a worker's profile to symbolize the "missing worker."
The memorial was dedicated on Sept. 17, 2004.
