Gates of Heaven Cemetery was originally part of Riverdale Cemetery. Land was sold to St. Mary and Sacred Heart parishes in Niagara Falls in 1897. In 1925 Riverdale disputed the land sale and after 17 years a settlement was finally made and Gates of Heaven was officially established in the Diocese of Buffalo in 1942.
There are 2 chapel mausoleums located in the back portion of the cemetery. The cemetery has over 16,000 internments.
