White Lake is a small community located in Aurora County on Interstate 90, about 30 miles west of Mitchell, SD.
A very busy and progressive town, White Lake, boasts numerous businesses and is a very popular pheasant hunting site.
As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of about 400 residents. Its ethnicity consists of German, Norwegian, Danish, English, and Irish ancestry.
The school system is excellent with numerous awards earned over the years: Winner of the Following Awards: Title 1 Distinguished School (K-6) 2005, Writing to Win Exemplary School (K-12) 2006, Blue Ribbon School (K-12) 2006, Writing to Win Exemplary School (K-12) 2007, and Named one of the Best High Schools 2009 by U.S. News & World Report in collaboration with School Evaluation Services
