Many people have been fooled by this seemingly accurate copy of a train station, but the simple fact of the matter is, this building never served a railroad. There are a number of architectural cues that mislead people – the building is located immediately adjacent to the Portland & Western Railroad; it has overhanging eaves; and a station name with the distance to Portland is located on the front of the building. A closer look reveals why it wouldn’t have functioned very well as a station: the operator’s bay window is located on the wrong side of the building for looking up and down the track, and the track side of the building would not properly serve trains in any case.
