The Downtown Presbyterian Church is located on Church Street at 5th Avenue. The congregation has roots going all the way back to 1785; the building, in its present form, was completed in 1851.
Andrew Jackson attended this church in 1838; James Polk was inaugurated governor here in 1839. The church was designed by William Strickland, the same architect who designed the State Capitol building.
