The brochure found at the website posted below notes that almost 1/3 of all persons traveling the Underground Railroad in Ohio made their way through Crawford County on their way to freedom. The county, and its capital of Bucyrus, were a focal point of traffic because they offered pathways north to Sandusky, Ohio and Lorain, Ohio where boats would take them across Lake Erie and Canada.

This is one of ten markers placed in the state of Ohio through a joint effort of The Friends of Freedom Society and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
