The first Methodist Mission was started by John Stewart at this site in 1816 for the Wyandott Indians.

John Stewart started this mission in 1816 and remained here until his death in 1823. His work was continued at this site with the construction of Mission Church in 1824. The mission remained active for the Wyandott until 1843 when they became the last tribe to be relocated from Ohio by the government.
