"Down-canyon on the north rim are still other dwellings, among which is picturesque STRONGHOLD HOUSE."
--- Utah: A Guide to the State, 1941
The area of Hovenweep National Monument here at the Little Ruin Canyon, is considered the Square Tower group in the whole conglemeration considered Hovenweep and the Canyons of the Ancients. This is the largest collection of ruins in the canyons.
The Stronghold House was at one time quite large, probably extending out and downward into the canyon. At the bottom of the canyon underneath what's left of this structure are piles of man-made building materials that have collapsed.
Visitors can get a close look at the walls on a short hike around Square Tower Canyon.
