Hovenweep House along the ledge of Ruin Canyon, in a group called the Square Tower group. This ruin is a great example of ancestral puebloan life throughout southeast Utah and southwest Colorado, dating from 250 AD through 1300 AD.

"HOVENWEEP HOUSE stands at the cliff rim in the head of Square Tower Canyon. It was, in the times of its Pueblo builders, a large semicircular structure that housed perhaps fifty families, and included circular underground rooms (now called kivas) for priestly rites and a large D-shaped tower that rose from the middle of the house."

Visiting any of the ruins in Hovenweep National Monument strikes awe and amazement. The Square Tower group is exceptional in the fact that so much can be derived of the lifestyle here.
The Hovenweep House provides a great glimpse of that lifestlye. These remains still contain alot of structure, and in some cases some of the original wood beams. The house was living space for a large group, possibly an extended family.
