Homosassa WMA consists of more than 5,000 acres in southwest Citrus County between the Homosassa and Chassahowitzka rivers and near the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. The area is a management unit of the Withlacoochee State Forest and consists of forested wetlands, planted pines, and improved pastures. Beginning in 2008, a limited archery hunt will be available by quota permit. Hunting of feral hogs, migratory birds, small game, and turkey is permitted in season. Bicycling, hiking, and wildlife viewing are permitted on the area and there is a designated hiking trail. Wildlife on this area include white-tailed deer, feral hogs, wild turkey, and wood duck. Horseback riding and camping are prohibited. This area is a site on the Great Florida Birding Trail.
