The Geauga Theater showed films into the late 1990's. The theater was family owned and in need of repair. Local multi-screen competition finally darkened the screen. The local theater production group, Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, moved into The Geauga in 1998. For a time the theater was dedicated entirely to live productions. Within the last few years the theater has once again been opened for movies on the weekends when live stage is not in session. For summer 2009, a film fest is planned.
