This mine adit is alongside the track leading from Gunnislake New Bridge in a north easterly direction into the woods of the Devon Great Consuls mine. The adit is about a quarter of a mile from the old toll house on the Devon side of the River Tamar.

Today, as you walk along the track by the River Tamar into the woods which cover the Devon Great Consuls mining area, it is hard to believe that this valley was once one of the major copper producers in the world.
This adit leads into the Bedford United Mine which began work in 1840. I understand that this adit was used to explorer the Marquis lode within the mine. From the path outside you can see some of the old timbers still in situ.
Do not enter the mine adit as it is dangerous.
