In Southwest Texas on U.S. 90 West, 60 miles west of Del Rio, the Judge Roy Bean Visitor Center is one of the 12 Texas Travel Information Centers operated by the Texas Department of Transportation for the convenience of the traveling public.
Features rustic saloon, courtroom, billiard hall and the opera house of Judge Roy Bean, the colorful and controversial “Law West of the Pecos” in 1880s. The center preserves historic site where Judge Bean ruled with high-handed brand of homespun law, outrageous humor and six-shooter justice.
Adjacent modern visitor center interprets highlights of Judge Bean’s career in “The Magic of Pepper’s Ghost Revealed” where dioramas come to life with live historic re-enactments or miniature stages. The “ghost-like” characters recall events during Bean’s tenure as judge.
