The Ocean County Police Academy is housed in the old carraige house of what was once the great estate of John D. Rockefeller. Across from the academy is a canine cemetery established for county owned dogs in recognition of their faithful service.

After Rockefeller's death, his family donated the estate grounds just off Route 88 in Lakewood to the County of Ocean. The County converted the grounds to a family park, and hosted many fairs and festivals.
Unfortunately, funding issues required the demolishen of the mansion, but other buildings, such as the carraige house and stables still stand and are in use.
The carraige house is now the Ocean County Police Academy. There is a one way road the winds through the park and takes one to different areas. Stay on the road, and you will drive past the academy. To your left, in front of the academy is this small canine cemetery. It was snowy when I visited, but one beautiful headstone stood out. One for Cindy, the Sheriff's Dept. Bloodhound. There is a carving of her face on the stone.
