Despite its name, the Oakland Yacht Club is located on the island of Alameda, at its own harbor across the estuary from Oakland. They were indeed founded in Oakland, in 1913, and built a clubhouse then built a wharf near 19th Street. In 1977 they left the Oakland side and in 1990 moved to the current nice building. The membership includes about 300 families evenly divided between power boats and sail boats. The Oakland Yacht Club has reciprocal privilege agreements with a large number of yacht clubs throughout the greater San Francisco Bay area, United States, Canada, Mexico and several other foreign countries.
The Club's facilities and amenities include:
large dining and bar area overlooking the marina and the Estuary
library and meeting room ("Regatta Room")
immaculate showers and restrooms with built-in hairdryers
200 slips, guest docks, and dinghy storage

Sailors with trailerable boats use the public launch ramp down the estuary at Grand Street. The launch area is well designed for sailboat access with good overhead clearance, trailer parking and rigging areas.
