Old car is display only. Covered with family crests. You can walk on the platform, but it is a closed car. Nicely landscaped in surrounding area. 2 markers tell of history. The first one states
"Boxcar used in the 1st World War presented by the French National Railroads to the state of LOUISIANA in gratitude for the help given to France by the American people."
The granite marker states
"The Louisiana Boxcar of the Merci' Train from France expressing the gratitude of that nation presented by Consul General Lionel Vasse to Governor Earl K. Long on Feburary 22, 1949 in apprecation of the generosity of the American people. Dedicated on these grounds by the Old State Capitol Memorial commission on June 12, 1949 by Drew Pearson. Fred C Dent - Chairman. Larry P. Baham - V.C.. Albert R. Isenberg, Secy. George Wildes, Jr. Niles P. Evans."
