The first mention of a church at Dunterton was in the taxation of 1288. Before 1460 the church was a Chantry Chapel for the Monastery of Tavistock. After that date the chapel became a parish church. On a wall in the Nave is a list of the Rector's of Dunterton from 1308
The present church is mainly a 15th century building. There is some 14th century work which survives in the south doorway and south aisle. The interior of the church is very plain and simple with no stained glass. All Saints has a very large tower for such a small building. The church was re-roofed during the period that the Rev Woolcombe was the Incumbent, with further restoration in 1891.
Today All Saints stands alone in farm land. Tradition has it that there was a village around the church but this disappeared at the time of the Black Death
