Sylvan Beach is on the east tip of Oneida Lake and is on the Erie Canal route. Sylvan Beach used to be a shipping port for Oneida Lake back in the 1820's, and the Barge Canal made the final stage of transport very important during the 1920s as well. The Village of Sylvan Beach has an estimated population of 1,100 people.
