This welcome sign is located on Route 59 entering town from the west. Smethport, Pennsylvania is county seat for McKean County, but is better known as the home of Wooly Willy, the world-famous magnetic drawing toy of the 50's and 60's.

In 1932 Ralph Herzog established the Smethport Specialty Co. in Smethport, Pennsylvania. It wasn't until 1955 that James Herzog patented Wooly Willy, the magnetic drawing toy that become one of the 40 top selling toys of the 50's and early 60's.
