Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center - Fort Myers, FL - Hospitals on Waymarking.com

Originally Community Hospital, the first open heart surgery and organ transplants performed in Ft Myers were done here. Formally owned by HCA, this facility was recently purchased by Lee Memorial Health Systems. Its fate is currently up in the air due to the construction of a new facility that will combine SWFRMC with Gulfcoast Hospital at Daniels and Metro Parkways. This facility is home to the Patty Berg Cancer Center.

Update: On 3/8/2009 Lee Memorial Health System opened the doors to their new facility that was added on to Gulfcoast Hospital; the combined facility is now know as Gulf Coast Medical Center. The doors to SWRMC closed for good. The plan is to tear down the facility and build a new one to house LeeSar and Cooperative Services of Florida, medical supply purchasing and distribution companies jointly owned by Lee Memorial Health System and Sarasota Memorial Health System.
Update 4/22/2011 Construction began today on the new warehouse facility that is to be located here.
