1. SIMMONS ISLAND PARK reaches from the harbor north to 45th St. and from Lake Michigan west to the lagoons of Pike Creek. From the bridge that crosses the lagoons into the park there is a view of the harbor, with fishing boats and yachts, red sentinel lights, a shining white Coast Guard Station, and to the southwest the long buildings of the Simmons plant. The park itself is landscaped, sloping down to the wide, sandy beach of Lake Michigan. The MUNICIPAL BATHHOUSE (open 1-9:30 daily; adm. adults, 10c, children free), has a pavilion overlooking the lake. Life guards are on duty during the open hours of the Bathhouse. On the wooded bluffs back from the lake are picnic tables, slides, swings, tennis courts, and basketball fields.

Today Simmons Island Park is still much as it was in 1940. The municipal bath house was vacant for many years, but a concession stand was recently opened in it and there are plans for a restaurant. The beach is still the main attraction for the Island.
