The idea of a Big Gumboot to welcome visitors was embraced by the Tully community in 1997.
The Golden Gumboot was completed on the 10th of May 2003 at a cost of $90,000AU which was raised by Tully Lions Club and Tully Rotary.
The Gumboot was designed and fabricated by Brian Newell and installed by Tully Rotary.
The Gumboot stands 7.9 metres (25.91 feet) tall, which represents Tully’s record annual rainfall of 7,900mm (311 inches) in 1950.
The Gumboot is constructed of fibreglass and contains a spiral staircase that leads to the viewing platform at the top of the boot.
Entry to the Gumboot is by donation, with the donation box located near the entrance at the rear of the boot.
