This memorial is one of five sites for the American Legion Peter Smith Post 327 Memorial Day Remembrances. This monument was placed by the Post in 1956 and is the original site of the Shawnee Post's Memorial Day Remembrances. Veterans from as far back as the War of 1812 are interred in this cemetery and are honored with this monument.

Description of Memorial: This is in the Central portion of the Pleasant View Cemetery - a very well-kept cemetery in the middle of Shawnee, Kansas. I have had a daughter and four nieces that have been "Miss Poppy" - the young lady that hasbeen responsible for handing out programs at the Memorial Day Remembrance in separate years.
