It is very moving place to stand between these two twisted sections of beams that once held up the one of the Towers!

The City’s Maintenance Division recently finished construction on the 9/11 Memorial, located at the Martinez Amtrak Station directly underneath the flagpole. The final product features parts of two steel beams from the World Trade Center and stands in memory of the citizens, firefighters and police officers who lost their lives on that tragic day. The Memorial also honors the family members who suffered great loss as a result of this tragedy.
The City held a dedication ceremony on September 10, 2006, that began with a flag raising observance conducted by the Honor Guard of the Martinez Police Department. Council member Mark Ross, who helped make the arrangements to obtain and transport the steel beams from Ground Zero, provided the introductory remarks. He recognized Darin Peterson, a firefighter with the Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire District, for his assistance transporting the symbolic pieces to Martinez, and also thanked the City’s maintenance staff for their outstanding work on the Memorial. Mayor Rob Schroder provided the dedication speech and was then joined by the other Council members to officially dedicate the Memorial, which now serves as a remembrance to all who visit the Amtrak Station

Text on the memorial:
September 11, 2001 "In this time of our Nation's great sorrow, may we look up to Heaven while we stand with heads raised to view our flag, This will lighten our hearts, in the awareness of all that has been given to us from those who have passed this way before. Let us draw strength, from this. We must leave a legacy of Love, Honor, Kindness, and Patriotism to all our Children." By Daniel Chase
