Northeast Tennesse has a fairly high geocache density - across urban and remote locations. While not into number runs, I enjoy hiking including the Applachian Trail.

Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol have 2000+ geocaches. These range from urban micros to ammo boxes in the woods. Due to the high cache density, we have seen logs of geocaching groups coming into town to pick up several hundred over a long weekend. Number runs is not my favorite style of geocaching, so if you asked me the best place for one day, I would direct you to Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport where there are roughly 35 quality cache hides. (As agreed by MtnGoat from Colorado this past summer.) The waymark coords and default photo are for the firetower where I hid my first geocache several years ago and visit roughly twice a year. I also hit a few caches along other area trails, including the AT. Even if you don't want a tour guide, I could help direct you towards your interest.
