A huge oak tree grows in the center of this cemetery. It was a pioneer guide tree, and showed the way on the Kaskaskia Trail which is still visible 50 yards to the north of this memorial, and runs right to left through the cemetery. This Cemetery was then Wolf Creek Cemetery and standing next to it, and is still today, the Wolf Creek Primitive Baptist Church. When this cemetery became the city cemetery, then the first of the twin artillery pieces was placed.
