This lovely mural can be glimpsed from the freeway below, and is well worth making a special stop in town to get a closer look.

Elkhorn Slough enters the Pacific just a few miles north of Castroville.

"The Elkhorn Slough is an inland waterway filled with seawater and teeming with life. Animals such as harbor seals, sea lions, and see otters call this their home. This estuary contains more than 340 different species of birds including the Great White Egret, the Blue Heron, the Sandpiper, the Tern, the Brown Pelican, and one of North America's largest birds, the White Pelican.
The Monterey Bay became home to many immigrants from all over the world including a group from Japan who settled in Castroville. The stylized Japanese woodblock design of this mural is demonstrated in the figures within the Elkhorn Slough landscape and the color selection of the mural."
