Locates boat ramp on Boef Creek, a 100 yards or so from the Missouri River.
Reference is to help you locate yourself to the numerous Lewis & Clark Markers along the Missouri River.
John Colter was a private in the Lewis & Clark expedition. He is the only one allowed to leave the expedition while they were still in the west. Colter roamed the west, discovered Yellowstone Park, referred to as Colter's Hell back then, fought with Indians and trapped. He then returned to this site in current Franklin County, married and had children. During the War of 1812 he re-joined the Army as a Missouri Ranger under Major Nathan Boone. He died while in service and was buried near here on a bluff. His grave site has never been found. But this landing still carries his name.
This site is on MO-100 about 2½ miles E. of New Haven, MO.
